Your drone work is awesome, a great customer service feature and a great addition to the blog, but I don’t see it replacing the signature JTR home tours / running monologues.
That thing is stable.

Brave new world.
Questions: Cost? How much wind will it tolerate? Can you see what it sees while it’s up? How far away from you can it go before it breaks the signal?
Well, I can see where tech development is headed over the next few years. Sell computer stock. Buy drone stock.

I think drones will be HUGE in real estate in years to come. Not surprised Jim is using one now. But please, please, JtR, your house tours with your astute observations and witty comments should never be replaced by one of those!
How much wind will it tolerate? I’m guessing 15-20 MPH winds don’t phase it, it is incredibly stable.
Can you see what it sees while it’s up? Yes, on this model they have a mobile app wi-fi connection so you can watch the camera from your iphone.
How far away from you can it go before it breaks the signal? It went 770 feet high without breaking the signal but it was right above me. Other times it has been 400-500ft? Wifey thinks I should know those numbers!

It is truly awesome. I’d use the hell out of it right now, because I wouldn’t be surprised to see them get highly regulated in the near future as more people get a hold of them.
I’d suggest using it first to get ocean-side looks at the pricey beachfront properties and their tenuous bluffs — stuff you could only otherwise get through an expensive helicopter ride. After that perhaps overhead views of pricier, large-lot developments like RSF, etc.
OH, and you need to go back and dub some of your trademark snark over the flight segments!!! 🙂

Hoping to practice enough that it can be utilized for advanced applications.

Nice!
Is that La Jolla? It looks great from up there.
My wife has let me get away with buying a few $100 quadcopters which I promptly broke. However I was able to cobble together a wobbly copter from parts of two them. So for buying three, I now have one working and one frankencopter.
No cameras on these guys, but I hope to pick up a unit similar to yours in a couple of years, when the price will have dropped of course.

You are very kind, thank you.
Can you send me more of those chocolate chippers? They are the best!
